Collaborative Conservation on Small Islands: Toward community empowerment and sustainable tourism in Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta

This chapter aimed to describe SOSIS, a collaborative conservation program carried out by several parties to address environmental, conservation and tourism issues in Kepulauan Seribu Regency. Being one of the alternative tourism destinations in the capital city, the Islands – with part of them belonging to a marine national park – however, face certain issues that need to be tackled. Some of the most critical issues are garbage and waste disposal, to which tourism and local communities’ general consumption contribute, and the degradation of coral reefs.
