Nourishing the Inner Life of Clinicians and Humanitarians: The Ethical Turn in Psychoanalysis
Thus this book will encourage the practicing clinician or humanitarian,
also a practicing philosopher, to internalize the crucial resources needed to
nourish and sustain the kind of practice that clinical work in the best of the
psychoanalytic tradition, including the ethical turn, requires. The required
capacities and attitudes involve not only wisdom and compassion, but also
vulnerability and fallibilism, courage and humility. Given that we clinicians
have human frailties, how are we to sustain the burdens, loneliness, and
attacks? This book attempts a partial response to this question.
