In-Vitro Anti-Diabetic Test of Ethanol Extract of Stevia Leafs ( Stevia rebaudiana)

Stevia is a natural sweetener that can compete with synthesis sugar. The usage of stevia sugar (steviosida) as a replacement of synthesis sugar is increasing, we will need to investigate the correlation between steviosida with blood sugar level. Fujita and Edahiro 11979) found that stevia plant (Stevia rebaudina) can be used as sugar replacement for people with Diabetes Mellilus and those who are in low calories diet, because the stevia plant consist of steviol glycoside that can decrease the glucose level in blood. Digestive method was used to gel ethanol 70% extract from stevia leaf. The ethanol extract was used in an in-vitro antidiabetic activities test. The activities test was done by inhibiting aglucosidase enzyme at the ethanol extract and steviosida. while acarbose was used as control positive. The result of IC50 was 2.8153 bpj in the ethanol extract, 2,9313bpj in steviosida. and 1.0906 bpj for acarbose respectively. The conclution was the ethanol extract from stevia leaf and steviosida both have anti-diabetic activities.
