Tiebacks tie a structure to an anchor made in stable soil. The achor, made deep in the earth at the end of a drilled or driven hole, is the key part of each tieback. In the last two decades, the number of tiebacks used has increased as contractors have perfected sophisticated construction techniques and engineers have developed better understanding of the design. We now understand the technique well engough to organize and present our new knowledge in this first book on tiebacks.
